CNC Grinding Services

Grinding is a machining process that takes a very light “cut” using an abrasive grinding wheel. Grinding wheels with different grit sizes achieve rougher or finer grinding passes, according to the needs of the application.

When ultra-high, precise accuracy and/or surface finish are required, grinding is often used as a finishing process after some other metalworking operation. Grinding is also an effective process for machining workpiece materials that are too hard for milling or turning.

Superior’s Grinding Capabilities Include:

Internal Diameter (ID) Grinding

At Superior Machining, we are equipped with a horizontal ID grinder that can accommodate six inches of grinding depth. In addition to the horizontal ID grinder, we have a vertical ID grinder. This machine is able to accommodate projects requiring two and a half inches of depth.

Outer Diameter (OD) Grinding
Long Bed OD Grinding

On the OD grinding side of things, Superior Machining is equipped with OD CNC grinders that accommodate up to 78 inches and eight-inch diameters. While our largest OD grinders are particularly advantageous to customers with uniquely large projects, our facility is equipped with several smaller OD grinders for smaller project orders.

Rotary Blanchard Grinding

Blanchard Rotary Grinding is another form of grinding service that Superior Machining is happy to offer our customers. These machines have a capacity of 38” diameter x 15” height.

Jig Grinding

Jig grinding is another method that can be used to achieve tight tolerances for a variety of different projects. Many customers utilize our jig grinding services for prototyped parts orders.

Surface Grinding

Surface grinding provides unique finishes to parts, often serving specific aesthetic or functional purposes. If you are curious to learn whether or not surface grinding is the right service for your project, we invite you to contact Superior—our team can walk you through all aspects of the grinding process.
